January stats up 55% (number of children up 72% in Jan 23)

6th February 2023

FIGURES FOR THE NUMBER OF FOOD PARCELS PROVIDED BY SLOUGH FOODBANK DURING 1 – 31 January 2023, COMPARED WITH THE SAME PERIOD IN 2022

Total number of food parcels: 1050 up 55% on 2022
Number of adults: 638 up 46% on 2022
Number of children: 412 up 72% on 2022

Laura Cole, Slough Foodbank manager commented:

“I have been devastated to watch the cost of living emergency creating a ‘tsunami of need’, as people struggle to survive amidst the soaring costs of day to day life. We are noticing more and more clients being referred to us and this now includes many more families – with an increase of 72% in the number of children provided for in January.”

With rising living costs, energy prices at record highs and delays and changes to Universal Credit payments, the demand for Slough Foodbank by people in food poverty crisis continues. It’s a stark reality that year on year the increase in demand continues – it’s not a trend that’s acceptable. People in Slough and the surrounding areas are going hungry and skipping meals just so they can pay the bills. This situation needs to change.
