May stats: decrease on previous year

5th June 2023

FIGURES FOR THE NUMBER OF FOOD PARCELS PROVIDED BY SLOUGH FOODBANK DURING 1 – 31 MAY 2023, COMPARED WITH THE SAME PERIOD IN 2022

Total number of food parcels: 742 down 13%
Number of adults: 445 down 13%
Number of children: 297 down 12%

These figures are the first decrease we’ve seen on 2022 figures so far this year. We are hopeful that the cost of living payments made at the end of April and first half of May had a positive effect. However, we will need to watch what happens in the coming months. It’s still 742 food parcels too many including 297 children relying on a foodbank food parcel for their meals.

The impact the cost of living payment has had, means that it’s ever more critical that the £19billion in unclaimed benefits is actually claimed by those who need it and that the winter fuel payments are made.

We continue to call on the UK government for an ‘Essentials Guarantee’ to make sure that the basic rate of Universal Credit is at least enough to afford the essentials we all need, such as food, household bills and travel costs.
