September figures lowest so far in 2023 but over the year to date, there is a 27% increase versus 2022

10th October 2023

FIGURES FOR THE NUMBER OF FOOD PARCELS PROVIDED BY SLOUGH FOODBANK DURING 1 – 30 SEPTEMBER 2023, COMPARED WITH THE SAME PERIOD IN 2022

Total number of food parcels: 804, a decrease of 9%
Number of adults: 570, broadly flat on last year
Number of children: 234, a decrease of 26%

September saw the lowest number of food parcels this year so far. This is not something to celebrate though, the total number of food parcels Jan – Sept in 2023 is 27% higher than the same period in 2022. During September, 804 people in Slough and the surrounding areas were in food poverty crisis. These are real people, including 234 children who are going hungry and just don’t have enough to cover the essentials. We mustn’t get complacent  We need the government to make changes that last like making sure that the basic rate of Universal Credit is at least enough to afford the essentials we all need, such as food, household bills and travel costs.
