OCTOBER FIGURES SHOW INCREASE IN NUMBER OF SINGLE PEOPLE

9th November 2023

FIGURES FOR THE NUMBER OF FOOD PARCELS PROVIDED BY SLOUGH FOODBANK DURING 1 – 31 October 2023, COMPARED WITH THE SAME PERIOD IN 2022

Total number of food parcels: 893, an increase of 1%
Number of adults: 611, an increase of 5%
Number of children: 282, a decrease of 7%

During October, 893 people in Slough and the surrounding areas were in food poverty crisis including 282 children who are going hungry and just don’t have enough to cover the essentials. It is pleasing to see that the number of children requiring help has decreased. However whilst food parcels has only increased by 1%, the number of vouchers we issued increased by 10% and over 58% of clients were single people with no children. We need the government to make changes that last like making sure that the basic rate of Universal Credit is at least enough to afford the essentials we all need, such as food, household bills and travel costs.
