November stats: 31% increase in number of food parcels

12th December 2023

FIGURES FOR THE NUMBER OF FOOD PARCELS PROVIDED BY SLOUGH FOODBANK DURING 1 – 30 NOVEMBER 2023, COMPARED WITH THE SAME PERIOD IN 2022

Total number of food parcels:1008, an increase of 31%
Number of adults: 639, an increase of 35%
Number of children: 369, an increase of 26%

It’s really sad to see such numbers in November, we were hoping that following the cost of living payments at the end of Oct and early November this would have led to a decrease in demand – this month we’ve had an increase in the number of children as more families are struggling with food poverty. In the winter months, people are under increased pressure to heat their homes. We’re urging the government to make changes that last, like making sure that the basic rate of Universal Credit is at least enough to afford the essentials we all need, such as food, household bills and travel costs.
