January Stats: 8% increase in number of food parcels but a 20% increase in adults as more single people in need

5th February 2024

FIGURES FOR THE NUMBER OF FOOD PARCELS PROVIDED BY SLOUGH FOODBANK DURING 1 – 31 January 2024, COMPARED WITH THE SAME PERIOD IN 2023

Total number of food parcels: 1,132, an increase of 8%
Number of adults: 765, an increase of 20%
Number of children: 467, a decrease of 11%

January continued to be a busy month, with over 1,132 food parcels being provided. We saw a significant increase in single people needing help with a 20% increase in the number of adults we helped. It’s a sad reality that the demand for Slough Foodbank continues  – 2023 saw more emergency food parcels given out than any previous year.

In the winter months, people are under increased pressure to heat their homes. Their income often isn’t enough to cover the essentials we all need. We’re urging the government to make changes that last, like making sure that the basic rate of Universal Credit is at least enough to afford the essentials such as food, household bills and travel costs.
