Slough Foodbank interviewed on Radio Berkshire

15th February 2022

Slough Foodbank Manager, Sue Sibany-king was interviewed by Andrew Peach on Radio Berkshire to talk about the Foodbank and current needs.

You can listen here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0bjz4nn from 1.26 to 1.30 (this recording will only be available until 14th march 2022).

Sue talks about:

  • 54% increase in number of food parcels during the last 2 years
  • People are needing longer term help – we used to work to 3 vouchers per crisis but now we are having to continue to support (following discussion with referral agencies) for a bit longer as people are struggling to get out of their food poverty crisis
  • How you can make a difference by donating items we are short of like tinned fruit, long-life fruit juice, shampoo and deodorant. People can donate at supermarkets in the Slough area, in co-op funeral care, or bring it to our warehouse
  • We are encouraging supporters of Slough Foodbank to keep campaigning, raising the profile of food poverty and that changes need to be made by government. This problem has been increasing for many years. The cost of living is increasing and the charities are picking up the pieces. This can’t go on.
