FIGURES FOR THE NUMBER OF FOOD PARCELS PROVIDED BY SLOUGH FOODBANK DURING 1 – 30 JUNE 2023, COMPARED WITH THE SAME PERIOD IN 2022
Total number of food parcels: 937, an increase of 26%
Number of adults: 598, an increase of 33%
Number of children: 339, an increase of 16%
These figures have increased since last year and also show that the decrease we saw in May was temporary – indicating that the cost of living payments made at the end of April and first half of May had a positive effect for a short while but demand has now reverted to higher levels.
The impact the cost of living payment has had, means that it’s ever more critical that the £19billion in unclaimed benefits is actually claimed by those who need it. We were grateful that foodbanks were debated recently in parliament and Slough Foodbank was mentioned by Slough MP Tan Dhesi. We continue to call on the UK government for an ‘Essentials Guarantee’ to make sure that the basic rate of Universal Credit is at least enough to afford the essentials we all need, such as food, household bills and travel costs.
